Luther and Laurier partner on Sing Fires of Justice 2019

Sing Fires of Justice, an annual multifaith community collaboration now in its 14th year, is scheduled to take place Oct. 4-6.

Abraham Jam -- an ensemble composed of Muslim, Jewish and Christian musicians – is set to bookend the three-day event starting with a panel discussion on Friday afternoon and concluding with a night of song and story the following Sunday evening.

“The Abraham Jam trio expresses the spirit of Sing Fires of Justice,” says Debbie Lou Ludolph, director of the Kanata Centre for Worship and Global Song at Martin Luther University College. “Members are going to share with us how singing together nurtures their passion for the common good.”

Sing Fires of Justice is a collaboration between the Kanata Centre and Laurier’s Faculty of Music.
“It is evident that people are seeking meaning in their lives, especially in these times of uncertainty and unpredictability,” says Lee Willingham, director of the Laurier Centre for Music in the Community. “Sing Fires of Justice seeks to find space so that through the act of singing together, we make meaning — meaning that informs our practice and serves the common good in our communities.”

Each year, the event includes a community choir formed during the event. All are welcome to gather and rehearse at First United Church on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to noon.
