Luther mourns the passing of Sonja Schweter
Martin Luther University College mourns the passing of Sonja Schweter, a student in the Master of Divinity program. Sonja passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2024.
Sonja completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Trent University and was studying at Luther to become a pastor. She is remembered by her fellow classmates and teachers for holding an unwavering commitment to her beliefs, with a strong devotion to supporting the people around her in whatever ways she could — often putting others above herself.
A tree was planted on the Albert St. side of Keffer Chapel to honour Sonja. Donations are also being accepted in her memory for Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences and her obituary can be read here.
Sonja will be deeply missed by her mentors and peers. As we mourn the loss of Sonja, the Luther community joins her family in remembering the profound impact she made during her life.
