Worship and Music

Martin Luther University College (formerly Waterloo Lutheran Seminary) provides a lot of opportunities for students, staff, faculty and the public to worship together or in solitude. As a faith-based school, we believe it’s essential for us to pause during our busy days and gather together for worship. Of course, everyone is welcome — not only those studying to become pastors, but also lay members of local congregations and people who identify as being spiritual but not religious.

Regularly scheduled opportunities for worship, contemplation and learning:

  • Weekdays at 12:30 p.m. — Contemplative Pause (see details below)
  • Wednesdays at 5 p.m. — Open Door communion services and solidarity gatherings
  • Sundays at 10:30 a.m. — thirdspace_ alternative worshipping community

See the event listings at the bottom of this web page for program details and Zoom links.

When it is safe to do so, we plan to resume worship activities on our campus. Our worship events usually take place in Keffer Memorial Chapel. The space is more than a chapel. It's also a site for personal reflection and meditation; classroom learning; public lectures; a student de-stressing program called Chilling With Dogs; and has even served as a yoga studio. Needless to say, but we'll say it anyway, it's a flexible space.

Worship activities are coordinated by Debbie Lou Ludolph, the school's dean of chapel and director of the Kanata Centre for Worship and Global Song.

Contemplative Pause

Weekdays during academic terms, we have gathered (online) at midday for a short time of teaching, prayer and reflection. The program for the fall 2022 is under development. Please return to this page in September.

See the event listings at the bottom of this web page for program details and the Zoom link.

Multifaith Prayer Room

Our school is home to a multifaith prayer room serving Luther and Laurier students. The room also doubles as a classroom and our weekly DISTRO distribution centre, so please check with the main office at for availability. DISTRO is a service Luther offers, in partnership with the Laurier Students' Public Interest Research Group (LSPIRG), to provide students with free food, hygiene and classroom supplies.
