Worship and Music

Martin Luther University College (formerly Waterloo Lutheran Seminary) provides a lot of opportunities for students, staff, faculty and the public to worship in groups or in solitude. As a faith-based school, we believe it’s essential for us to pause during our busy days and gather together for worship. Of course, everyone is welcome — not only those studying to become pastors, but also lay members of local congregations and people who identify as being spiritual but not religious.

Our worship events take place in Keffer Memorial Chapel. The space is more than a chapel. It's also a site for personal reflection and meditation; classroom learning; public lectures; a student de-stressing program called Chilling With Dogs; and has even served as a yoga studio. Needless to say, but we'll say it anyway, it's a flexible space.

Worship activities are coordinated by Debbie Lou Ludolph, the school's dean of chapel and director of the Kanata Centre for Worship and Global Song.

Something Sacred

Weekdays during academic terms, we gather at midday for a short time of art and teaching; prayer and reflection; and de-stressing with dogs. Each day there will be a different activity:

  • Monday - Contemplative music
  • Tuesday - Reading and reflecting on The Acts of the Apostles: A window into the early church
  • Wednesday - Prayers for the world
  • Thursday - Chilling With Dogs; Multifaith teachings
  • Friday - Settler work: Contemplative arts and MMIWG

See the flyer for specific times, locations and a detailed list of Something Sacred gatherings for Fall 2019.
