Scholarships and Bursaries
Full-time students at Luther may be eligible for financial assistance through both Laurier and Luther-specific bursaries. While part-time students are not eligible for Luther bursaries, they may qualify for OSAP.
How to Apply
To be considered for any Luther bursary, you must complete the General Profile under the Student Awards tab on LORIS. This profile helps us assess financial need and is essential for your application to be reviewed. Incomplete profiles may not be considered.
Types of Bursaries Available
Full-Time Bursary
- Available to graduate students enrolled in a full-time course load.
- Students receiving senior tuition exemption are not eligible.
- Approximate value: $600 per term (subject to slight annual variation).
- Applications are submitted through LORIS. You’ll receive an email notification when the application becomes available.
- Access the application via the Student Awards & Financial Aid tab on LORIS.
- Bursaries are awarded based on your registration status after the final course add date for the term.
- Please allow several weeks for the bursary to appear on your student account.
Note: Late applications will not be considered.
These bursaries are funded through generous endowments and are awarded based on demonstrated financial need. Applications are accepted once per year, between August 4 and September 29.
To be eligible, you must complete all three steps by the deadline:
- Be fully registered with a full-time course load for both Fall and Winter terms.
- Complete the Annual Bursaries Application Form.
- Complete the General Profile on LORIS.
Important: Incomplete or late applications will not be reviewed.
Some bursaries may include donor-specific criteria, such as questions about your faith tradition. If awarded, you may be asked to write a thank-you note to your benefactor.Students in the Master of Divinity program are required to complete one unit of Supervised Pastoral Education (SPE). We are especially grateful for the generosity of the Martin Luther University College Auxiliary (formerly Women's Auxiliary) for providing bursaries to MDiv students completing the SPE portion of their degree program.
MDiv students may apply for this bursary once they have received an acceptance letter from the SPE site. To apply for this bursary, contact lutherfinance@wlu.ca
The Serenia Life Financial Scholarship program is available to members of Serenia Life Financial. One-time scholarships are awarded each year to a limited number of members pursuing a full-time undergraduate or graduate university degree, or college diploma at any accredited institution in, or outside of, Canada.
Luther graduate students are members of the Wilfrid Laurier University Graduate Students’ Association (GSA). The GSA provides a slate of services to graduate students including an extended health and dental insurance plan, career counselling, and discounts through a variety of resources. It also administers a number of different funds, including funds that can help you pay for attending professional development workshops, new technology, or many other grad-student expenses. You should definitely check them out!
External scholarship competitions awarded on the basis of academic merit are listed by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (FGPS). Normally Luther students are eligible for social science competitions. Students with a psychotherapy focus could also consider applying under health categories.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) provides eligible students with grants and loans to help cover the cost of postsecondary education. To apply, visit the Government of Ontario OSAP website.
Unfortunately, Luther and Laurier do not currently offer financial aid to international students. Please note that international students must demonstrate financial self-sufficiency to obtain a study permit.

- Fall 2025: September 4, 2025
- Winter 2026: January 5, 2026
- Spring/Intersession/Summer 2026: May 4, 2026
Late fees will be applied to any unpaid balances after these dates.
