Minors at Luther
Our multifaith and inclusive practice creates a diverse and vibrant community. Students from all backgrounds and faiths are welcome to apply.
Students enrolled in any Bachelor of Arts programs at Laurier are welcome to take one of the following minors. For more information, contact martin@luther.wlu.ca.
Christianity, Interfaith Dialogue and Community Engagement Minor
The Minor in Christianity, Interfaith Dialogue, and Community Engagement provides a space for students to explore the practice of faith and spirituality in today’s pluralistic world. Courses in this minor enable students to ask pressing questions of orientation and meaning openly, reflecting critically on the role of faith in contemporary society. They will also have opportunities to engage in service and experiential learning in diverse community settings. This additional area of specialty is the ideal addition to the academic life of students wishing to better understand their lives of meaning and service.

Upon approval, you may choose up to 1.0 elective credits that relate to Christian Studies and Global Citizenship from your home program.
Completion of the minor requirements will result in a "Christian Studies and Global Citizenship" designation on a student's transcript.
When choosing elective courses, note that some of these courses have prerequisites. Although these prerequisites may be waived by the program or department.

Human Relationships Minor
The Minor in Human Relationships is designed for undergraduate students who are contemplating professional careers or graduate work in the areas of mental health, community work and social services, developmental services, spiritual care, public service, counselling and/or ministry. Courses in the areas of music and global song, spiritual care and counselling, Indigenous ways of knowing and healing, the restorative contemplative arts, and Citizenship, Faith, and Leadership are available.
The Minor requires you to take 3.0 credits:
- GC205 (0.5) Required for all students taking any Minor at Martin Luther University College;
- GC230 (0.5) Required for psychology students. Students from other faculties, who are not interested in counselling can choose another course from Martin Luther University College as their second required course in consultation with program co-ordinator/department head.
Student’s choose 1.0 credit from the following course suites (all are 0.5 credits) in consultation with their program co-ordinator/department head and Martin Luther University College.
- Suite 1: "Applied" Electives (0.5 credit). For psychology students and those from other faculties interested in counselling, the social and developmental services, and/or ministry. These courses will be offered alternate years.
GC231, GC232, GC233, GC234, GC280, GC330, GC380 - Suite 2: Music Electives (0.5 credit) Recommended for Music students, however, students from the faculty of music and other departments can take electives from suites, 1, 2, and/or 3 to create a student-centered Minor in consultation with program co-ordinator/department head.
GC252, GC351, GC352, GC353, GC354. - Suite 3: Citizenship, Faith, and Leadership Electives (0.5 credit).
Recommended for students interested in Public Service, Community/ Global development, Leadership, Ministry, Non-profit work, or Politics. However, students from other departments can take electives from suites, 1, 2, and/or 3 to create a student-centered Minor in consultation with their home department and Luther.

Students can use 1.0 senior credit from their bachelor’s degree program in consultation with their home program or faculty and Martin Luther University College. The following are recommendations:
The minimum requirement for the minor consists of 3.0 credits, no fewer than 2.0 of which shall be senior credits and no fewer than 2.0 of which shall be obtained at Wilfrid Laurier University. Students may not hold a minor in a subject in which they have a field of specialization or option.

Judaism Minor
This minor provides you with a supplemental course of study focusing on historical, philosophical, secular, and religious development of Jewish thought and traditions. It attracts students from diverse faculties who engage critically in the study of history, philosophy, education, global citizenship, and social sciences. The minor's core courses encourage firsthand interaction with the original works of Jewish tradition and thought, as well as with analysis of philosophical and historical environments whereby their significance is established and/or further developed.

1. Other courses offered by these departments as well as select courses other departments may also be counted towards this requirement. Such courses must be approved in advance and in consultation with the Advisor in the host department and the Student Advisor in Martin Luther University College. When choosing courses, please keep in mind that many of these courses have prerequisites. While the prerequisites may be waived at the discretion of program or department administering the course, it is the responsibility of the student to make these arrangements as needed.
2. Students with a foundational background in Jewish education may be eligible to have this requirement waived, in consultation with the Student Advisor in Martin Luther University College. Where this requirement is waived, students are required to replace the course with 0.5 credit listed under B) Core Courses.
3. Sections B (Core Courses) and C (Elective Courses), when combined, must equal 2.0 credits total.

Spirituality and the Arts Minor
Courses in this minor will consider the nature of spirituality and its relationship with creativity and the arts. Students will have the opportunity to explore several of the arts as spiritual practice, such as music, movement, photography, poetry, film visual art. Through these expressive arts, scholarly articles, and guest presenters, students will explore spirituality, expressed and shaped by the arts, as a creative and meaningful way of being in the world.
