Explore Luther's renewed building at Doors Open WR on Sept. 15

Construction fences no longer surround Martin Luther University College (formerly Waterloo Lutheran Seminary) and on-site construction crews are dwindling by the day. Luther’s faculty and staff are nearly ready to welcome students for the fall term.

If you’ve been wondering what has happened to the building during the 14-month construction period, join architecture fans from across the region for guided tours throughout the renewed building from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018.

Luther’s mid-century building is among the architectural gems on this year’s Doors Open Waterloo Region program.

Improvements made during the recent restoration include:

  • modernized classrooms
  • brightened chapel
  • decking in the courtyard
  • ablution facilities for Muslim students and guests
  • accessible and gender-neutral washrooms
  • open gathering spaces
  • a welcoming new entrance

Guided tours throughout the day.

Terry Montgomery, the principal architect on the project, is scheduled to deliver an illustrated talk on the restoration at 1:30 p.m.
