Open house at Glebe Centre’s additional new location

The Delton Glebe Counselling Centre, a community service provided by Martin Luther University College, has opened a second location on the main floor of the FaithLife Financial building at 470 Weber St. N. in Waterloo. Everyone is invited to tour the new facility during an open house 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24.

The new location, in addition to the main office at 177 Albert St. In Waterloo, allows the centre to continue to offer high-quality, professional, accessible mental-health support services to anyone in the community, said Neta Deonarain-Gear, the centre’s executive director.

“Many in our community are struggling as the COVID epidemic continues to exert a toll on many,” Deonarain-Gear said. “The economy is struggling, the global news is difficult and within Canada we continue to examine the legacy of residential schools, colonialism and profound inequities.

“People need to connect, find help and be supported,” she added. “It is our honour to journey with them.”

Kristine Lund, The Glebe Centre’s founder and clinical director, said demand for services has exceeded the capacity of the main location, a two-storey century old home at the corner of Albert Street and Seagram Drive.

“Since opening in 2013, we have experienced steady growth and simply need more space to continue offering timely service without wait lists,” Lund said. “The 11 rooms at our additional new location will help us respond to the pressing need over the next many years.”

The Glebe Centre opened its second office shortly after the Canada Day weekend, said Alan Uffelmann, FaithLife Financial’s vice-president of finance and chief financial officer.

“We wish them much success in their new office location as they continue to serve the community,” Uffelmann said.
