Inshallah
Inshallah is a singing community, part of the Kanata Centre at Martin Luther University College. We began in 2007 following a study tour to Israel/Palestine. During the tour, a Christian woman in the West Bank asked us to go home and sing their songs as a way to remember them. About 20 singers gathered that September to experiment with ways to meet her request. Our name is an Arabic word we heard repeatedly on the tour. It means, "God willing."
Today Inshallah has about 150 voices, including several instrumentalists, gathered from across campus, throughout Waterloo Region and beyond. We sing songs of praise and prayer, of joy and lament, from around the world. It's a fun and welcoming space where multifaith and multicultural diversity is explored through music at rehearsals, public gatherings and workshops. We are led by Debbie Lou Ludolph, with the help of many volunteers, including an advisory committee.

All Voices Welcome
Inshallah meets weekly on Tuesdays from 5:00 to 6:20 p.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church, 50 Erb St. W. in Waterloo, during the Fall and Winter academic terms. New members are welcome to join during the first two weeks of each term. There are no auditions to join Inshallah.
Every member, new or continuing, registers each term and pays a registration fee, as they are able. Each member needs a copy of both Inshallah songbooks. Specific details about each term are included in our welcome letter found here. For more information, contact Kathryn at admin@inshallah.ca.
Inshallah is a singing community where spirituality accompanies global song, story, and community engagement toward the flourishing of humanity and the well-being of creation.
Sing the Circle Wide (2016) captures Inshallah's journey during its first 10 years. It contains 70 songs categorized by geographical region: Canada, Indigenous North America, the Americas, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the Far East.
Sing the Journey Deep (2024) is a companion for the complicated times in which we live. It offers over 50 more songs that have accompanied Inshallah through life's circumstances, including welcoming refugees, growing in relationship to the land and Indigenous people, responding to social injustices and Covid-19 isolations, and lamenting the horrors of war.
Both songbooks are available at Laurier's Bookstore or at Luther Shop. Members can purchase them at rehearsals. They are also available for sale at Inshallah Public Events. Bulk rates are available by contacting Kathryn at admin@inshallah.ca.

Our goal is to make all Inshallah activities accessible to members. Rehearsal space is wheelchair accessible, and we make every effort to ensure that performance venues are as well.
Out of consideration for those who have scent allergies or sensitivities, we ask members to refrain from using scented products during all Inshallah activities.
Singers are encouraged to choose a location in the rehearsal space where they can see and hear and feel comfortable.
We have a buddy system for members who need a little extra help. We can provide Braille lyrics if they are needed. If the registration fees are a barrier to participation, they can be reduced or waived.
