Graduate Diploma: Applied Expressive Arts and Psychotherapy

Students participating in a painting workshop

The Graduate Diploma in Applied Expressive Arts and Psychotherapy is intended for practicing professionals who are looking to expand their knowledge of and integrate expressive arts modalities into their existing clinical, spiritual, or educational frameworks.

Expressive Arts therapy is a form of psychotherapy that combines the creative process of multiple art forms with psychology to promote healing, personal growth, and emotional expression. It uses activities like visual arts, music, dance, drama, and creative writing to help individuals explore and process feelings, thoughts, and experiences that may be difficult to articulate verbally. This approach is client-centered, emphasizing creative self-expression as a way to access inner insights and solutions, and does not require the client to have any artistic skill.

The diploma without additional graduate level education will not qualify a student to apply for professional certification or become a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. Students who are interested in entering the field of Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy should make an application directly to the Master of Arts in Theology: Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy program.
