Luther dedicates new Centre for Earth Consciousness and Gender Justice

Rev. Dr. Kristine Lund, principal-dean of Martin Luther University College, is pleased to announce the dedication of the school’s new Centre for Earth Consciousness and Gender Justice. The centre’s dedication is planned for Wednesday, Oct. 6, during the school’s weekly Open Door service.

“We stand at a critical time for the well-being of all living things,” Lund said. “I am so pleased that this centre will be a resource for Luther to strengthen its commitment to the care of creation and living out our call to do justice.”

The centre will be directed by assistant principal and associate professor Dr. Mary (Joy) Philip.
Philip said the goal of the centre is planetary well-being and justice that works towards the common good, not just for the present but for all future living beings on the planet.

“For me, to practice Earth consciousness and work for gender justice is a call,” Philip said. “The creation of the centre is a response to that call.”

Philip said she plans to collaborate with partners in Waterloo Region and around the world to present events and other learning opportunities.
